One of the work streams of Sundsvall in SMARTSET was to investigate a business case and to demonstrate a rail freight transport using so called last mile locomotives.

The intermodal part of the SMARTSET project, sponsored by the City of Sundsvall, has resulted in a new train concept called the South-North train which is running since December 2014.
