The intermodal part of the SMARTSET project, sponsored by the City of Sundsvall, has resulted in a new train concept called the South-North train which is running since December 2014. The train is serving the terminals in Trelleborg which is also a port gateway to Sweden, and the terminals in Katrineholm, Sundsvall and Umeå. An expert in logistics has supported the city of Sundsvall’s affiliated partner in SMARTSET, logistikparken, in putting together a cooperative business model in which the four terminals cooperate around a train. The business case has the following elements:
- Design of time table for the intermodal route
- Indicative price list for the different intermodal terminals and ports
- Fixed in/out deliveries on the terminals
- Daily departures and arrivals weekdays
- Dedicated contact persons on each terminal
- Terminals has a joint and shared customer list
- Focussed marketing to customers
