For High Capacity Transports the standards in Sweden are above 60 tons and/or 25.25 meters. The case for HCT-transports to Sundsvall involves a demonstration with one of the largest grocery store chains in Sweden, COOP. The main incentive is to develop a cost-efficient business plan which involves the use of HCT-vehicles in the supply chain between the COOP central warehouse outside Stockholm and its retailers in Sundsvall.
A first step has been to apply for the permits required to conduct trials with transports with larger dimensions. Once approved a trial will be conducted in cooperation with the operator responsible for COOP’s supply chain.
The SMARTSET partner Trafikverket, the Swedish road and rail infrastructure manager, has supported COOP in submitting an application to the regulatory authority the Swedish Transport Agency for a test with HCT vehicles to be deployed between their main storage hub in Bro outside Stockholm to Sundsvall and beyond. The application is momentarily put on hold pending a government decision to approve an act that will authorize the Swedish Transport Authority to directly issue exemptions from the existing regulation.
