On the 21st of March took place the visit of the Minister of Transport, Maurizio Lupi, to the facilities of Interporto Padova. A tour inside the whole structure to present him all the activities performed in the platform of Padua: intermodal, logistic and city logistics services.
The Italian Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Mr. Maurizio Lupi, visited Interporto Padova accompanied by the President of the Company, Mr. Sergio Giordani and by the Director Mr. Roberto Tosetto, the Mayor of Padua Mr. Ivo Rossi and the Vice-President of the Chamber of Commerce Mr. Sergio Gelain. The Minister directly saw the activities of the intermodal terminal, one of the largest in Italy, from which depart more than 5,000 trains a year to the main Italian and European ports. The tour then continued with a visit to the warehouses where are located the major international logistic companies and ended in the operational platform of Cityporto, the service of urban distribution of goods with low environmental impact that celebrates ten years of activity and is considered among the best models of its kind in Europe. The visit was the occasion to present the Minister of Transport and the attending public the activities of Cityporto included in Smartsetproject, and with the aim of further disseminate the goals and objectives of the project, the Smartset leaflets were distributed in the premises.
The Minister was also informed about the objectives achieved by Interporto Padova in the recent years and the future plans of the Company. The Company’s management presented him the technological project of installation of electric gantry cranes in the intermodal terminal that would allow the activities to give a further technological quality leap and that would double the capacity of the terminal without consuming additional territory as well as allowing the creation of connections between the various intermodal trains thus expanding the range of locations origin / destination connected. The gantry crane in fact allow to move quickly and economically containers between two trains side by side in the terminal without stops and downtimes of the handling operations in the yards. In addition, the gantry crane, moved by electricity instead of diesel engines, allowing a less costly management of the terminal and at the same time cutting emissions.
In terms of goals achieved, last year Interporto Padova, in the two intermodal terminal has handled more than 250 thousand containers, while Cityporto broke the barrier of 100 000 deliveries.
